People are the power of this place.
The rooms were fine, the public spaces were fine. The bars are great, with the exception that "Grain" doesn't carry any single malt scotch? How is that even possible. The first floor bar is a nice pub, and the bartenders are good. The cats upstairs are hit and miss. But the story of this joint is the two killer front desk ladies--they are money

Great but be aware of noisy terrace rooms
The hotel was great with incredible art, nice rooms, and adequate conference space....however we were "upgraded" to a room above the Grain restaurant terrace and the noise level was very loud until well after midnight. If you need to get to sleep early, be aware of this and ask for a different room

Downtown needed the Hilton Main...Thank you!
Male/solo traveler/37/Business/Hilton Diamond... Being a frequent traveler of 160+ days a year this is one of my favorite hotels. Beautiful hotel. (This was my 2nd stay) Location is great to walk to close restaurants and shops like Jack Brown's for a burger across the street. Elevators are insanely fast (slow elevators kill me). Check-in and hotel staff were great. My room was cleaned well daily and this hotel also offers a turn down service which is uncommon for most U.S. hotels. I had dinner 2x at Varia other than daily breakfast which is excellent btw. Morning servers (sorry I can't recall my servers name!!!) are amazingly attentive which can be rare. Courtney and Annie the sommelier were incredibly knowledgeable. Jamie rushed in my order last minute so my cheap self could make Happy Hour! THANX JAMIE!!! Nicole, Stephanie and the entire bar staff downstairs at the Saltine bar are perfect. Being mixologist vs just peasant bartenders is evident in every drink they make. Period. Their passion for what they do is evident. I genuinely hope they don't change a thing except find Stephanie a name tag. I'm sure management can find her a replacement with incredibly large font:) My room was on the 19th floor and I did have trouble sleeping Friday and Saturday due to noise from the beer garden below me as mentioned in another post. I turned on my white noise and was fine, but if you have to work the next day and can't go join the buffoonery it would be irritating. The shower and bathroom were great as well as water temperature getting hot and pressure. The executive lounge on the 21st has killer views. Even when Marriott next door completely their renovations they still can't compete with everything Hilton Main has to offer. I'm genuinely going to come back to Norfolk from DC for a weekend trip occasionally solely due to this hotel and staff

Take down the crass art
Nice enough hotel but the owners are ignorant to today's issues. There is a picture of a naked women tied in a bow suggesting she is open for business. Really??? In today's day and age? Really when trafficking is being battled around the world? Taking down the picture and replacing it with something tasteful and thoughtful would not cost the hotel money as the hotel is filled with art. I'm not taking my business there again until management stops promoting womanizing

Varia Happy Hour & Wine Tasting on Thursdays
Varia's has one of the best happy hours and wine tastings available in Norfolk. The food is fresh and great. The wine selection and pricing cannot be beat. There are wine tastings on Thursday too! There are trained Sommeliers on staff as well - Annie is the best! Highly recommen
