During our recent family ...

During our recent family trip, we had the pleasure of staying at Hilton Norfolk The Main and overall, it was a positive experience with a few minor drawbacks. We opted for a partial river view room, which provided ample space for our family of four. The room size was great, allowing us to move around comfortably without feeling cramped. However, we found that the actual river view was just average and didn't justify the additional cost. Next time, we'll opt for a regular room instead. The hotel itself was delightful, adorned with an impressive collection of artwork that appealed to the entire family. It added a touch of sophistication to the ambiance. The cleanliness of the pool and gym facilities was commendable, and we felt at ease utilizing those spaces during our stay. Among the hotel's restaurants, Varia stood out as our favorite. The staff, from the host to the waitstaff, were incredibly friendly and kind, providing excellent service. The rooftop restaurant, Grain, had its ups and downs. While the views and drinks were enjoyable, it often became overcrowded, leading to subpar service. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Hilton Norfolk The Main, and we would like to extend a special thanks to one of their employees, Quincy. Quincy was exceptionally kind and provided us with valuable advice on the hotel and local attractions, enhancing our experience. We would recommend Hilton Norfolk The Main to other travelers, keeping in mind the considerations mentioned regarding the room selection and the potential for crowdedness at Grain.

This hotel is located ...

This hotel is located right at the water where the cruise ships come in. It is close to museums, restaurants and the cruise ship port. All are within a short walking distance. The hotel is a nice Hilton hotel. They have a rooftop bar and a restaurant in addition to a coffee shop. There are no free breakfasts. Hilton likes you to use the Hilton App to check-in and check-out as well as a keyless key. You will need to tap and go to have the elevator take you to your floor, to enter your room and to enter the ice and vending room on your floor. I assume if you are older you can go up to the check-in desk on the second floor using the escalator and get a tap and go key card. The app and the entire check-in and check-out process is very convenient and easy. So there should be no excuse for the front desk not to answer the phone but it happened...a few times calling them from and outside phone line before we arrived. Now the room and the price. The room prices are very high. Nothing special in the rooms. However, the clock next to the bed didn't work, there was a large light stain on the carpet that apparently was cleaned but not removed, and you could hear a mechanical noise such as from a compressor. This room was an upgrade to a suite from a standard room since it was available according to the Hilton App. I suggest not to upgrade. On the return of our trip we stayed in the standard Hilton room. There was low water pressure and you could hear other doors in the hall close. Again the price was high even for the standard room. By the way, there is a lot of road, bridge and tunnel construction going on in this part of Virginia. Please allow at least an hour extra travel and never try to enter Norfolk during the afternoon rush hour.

Honestly it’s An awesome place to go for happy hour but they only have live music on the weekends which takes away most of the crowd because people WANNA DANCE and can’t. BRING IN A DJ! More revenue. Hello! But overall good place to go

The Hilton Norfolk hotel ...

The Hilton Norfolk hotel is a clean and overall convenient hotel. All of the staff are nice and connect with the visitors. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is perfect for any business occasions, or to see the nearby USS Wisconsin or the riverside entertainment. For the price, you're getting your money's worth. The only complaint that I have is the noise of the industrial sized air conditioning in each room. If you prioritize sleeping soundly and peacefully, maybe this isn't the hotel for you.

My husband and I ...

My husband and I were in town for an event at the Scope- initially I thought this would require us to drive but surprisingly, not a bad walk at all. The service was overall great- we traveled with our service animal and did not get any grief or have issues (unfortunately, the opposite is usually the case for us when we go to establishments). Jeff, bell service, was so friendly and wonderful to run into around the hotel- he had great recommendations and made us feel so welcome. The area is GREAT- right near everything and the restaurants in the hotel are all wonderful - usually it’s hard to just get to these locations so having these restaurants right in the hotel made the cost so worth it (if you have to pick just one restaurant in the hotel to visit while you’re here, go with Grain). And as Hilton Diamond members we were upgraded automatically to a BEAUTIFUL river view which soothed us right to sleep for a nap on a rainy day after a brunch at Grain which is an absolute must. The only reason I knocked the rating to 4 was for minor things. The pool was supposed to be heated and we wanted to enjoy it on a gloomy, rainy day, but the pool was cold and another family with rambunctious kids splashing all the water out of the pool and screaming the whole time (kids clearly are out of the hotel’s control) so we ended up spending more time out of the pool and just left. The showers are beautiful but the vent didn’t work (probably for the best since it looked like it had never been cleaned) and the seal for the shower was ineffective so when you get out of the shower, you have a nice puddle that soaks the mat. Lastly, I called for housekeeping to service my room- the first time, the front desk was unaware that housekeeping wouldn’t automatically clean but luckily, I double-checked in person and was correct that we needed to be on a list, so we were added. Then I got concerned around 1 PM when housekeeping still didn’t come by so I called again and front desk just said “I’ll make sure you’re on the list.” Come 2 PM, still nothing and I wasn’t reassured by all my interactions with the front desk so I went straight to housekeeping down the hall and sure enough, they didn’t have us on their list so they were kind enough to make sure it got done. However, I’m happy that the service manager did come to our room after all the miscommunication to ensure we were taken care of.
